This page lists vegetarian & vegan restaurants in Vienna, Austria, from 2014 onwards. The list includes restaurants which are no longer in business, as well as restaurants which were once strictly vegetarian/vegan, but eventually added meat/fish to their menus (so you can avoid them, if you wish).
Restaurants which are no longer in business will be marked “PERMANENTLY CLOSED” Restaurants which added meat/fish will be marked “NO LONGER VEGETARIAN.”
I use the term “restaurant” loosely – many of these “restaurants” are but tiny cafés or even just take-away businesses with limited menus, and many have no customer bathrooms. Whenever a restaurant has proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms, I specifically mention it. Please note that most bathrooms are not wheelchair-accessible.
Some restaurants don’t have websites, only social media accounts. In such cases, I list Facebook accounts, but not Instagram accounts, as Instagram completely restricts access for people who don’t have accounts themselves and just displays a “Sorry, this page isn’t available” message. Facebook, at least, links to existing pages, and non-members can view the last entry (and are therefore able to conclude whether a restaurant is still in business, or not). Note to restaurants: Get a website, if you want to stay in business for a long time! Why would you want to limit access to information about your business to people with social media accounts? That’s just bad business sense.
1st district – Innere Stadt:
“Anker,” one of many “Anker” branches in Vienna, this one was strictly vegetarian (former address: located in the U1 “Stephansdom” subway station passage). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This branch opened in late 2017, and closed down in December of 2018. (Last updated: December 17, 2023).
“Die Bio Bar von Antun” (former address: Drahtgasse 3). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed in 2017. (Last updated: December 17, 2023).
“Biowerkstatt” (former address: Bieber Straße 22). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This organic grocery store & restaurant opened in late 2012 and closed in May of 2017. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Boutique Café Annabelle” (former address: Herrengasse 5). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Small vegetarian café which opened in September 2022, and closed in January of 2024. (Last updated: June 04, 2024).
“Café Blütezeit” (current address: Laurenzerberg 1). Small vegetarian café. Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. The café doesn’t have a website. (Last updated: August 13, 2025).
“Cup n’Keks” (former address: Hoher Markt, now located in the 14th district). NO LONGER VEGETARIAN/VEGAN. This was a tiny bakery/café, which moved to a much larger location in a different district several years ago. It’s no longer a vegetarian café. (Last updated: December 17, 2023).
“Eis-Greissler“ (current address: Rotenturmstraße 14, one of four locations in Vienna). Several vegan ice cream flavours. No in-house seating, only take-away service. No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: March 17, 2024).

“I love Veggie Burger” (former address: Salzgries). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed down sometime after 2016, there’s a “Veggiezz”-restaurant now at this location. Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Jola“ (current address: Salzgries 15). “Jola” is not a traditional restaurant. Reservations are mandatory, and you’ll be served a multi-course vegan set dinner, but that’s all the information you get in advance; you can’t choose individual dishes from a menu. It’s very expensive, I’ve never eaten there. Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. This restaurant opened in the spring of 2022. (Last updated: August 03, 2025).
“Kardamom” (former address: Schwedenplatz 3-4). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed in August of 2020. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Karma Food“: (current address: Laurenzerberg 3). Tiny vegetarian restaurant. Seating for four people, but only two tiny tables (not big enough for two plates). Mostly geared towards take-away customers. No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: November 25, 2025).
“Karma Food“: (current address: Schottenring 17). Small vegetarian restaurant. Counter seating for six people. No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: October 23, 2025).
“Knödelmanufaktur vegan” (former address: Fleischmarkt 28).PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This tiny take-away shop with no in-house seating opened in the spring of 2021, not sure when it closed down. (Last updated: October 23, 2025).
“Köstlich” (former address: Färbergasse 8). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Not sure when this restaurant closed, it was still open in 2019, but was no longer in business in 2023. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Lara“ (current address: Passauer Platz 2). One of the pricier vegan restaurants in Vienna. Proper chairs and tables for appr. 35+ people, plus counter seating for another 10+ people at the bar. This restaurant opened in July of 2025. (Last updated: October 23, 2025).
“Makro 1” (former address: Fleischmarkt 16). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This organic grocery store & vegan restaurant closed in November of 2019. (Last updated: December 17, 2023).
“Natürlich Wrenkh“ (current address: Rauhensteingasse 12). Tiny, with only bar-stool seating, few vegan options. (Update: Lately, they seem to put more vegan options on the menu, but check in advance, as they don’t offer a vegan entree every day). No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Oakberry” (current address: Maysedergasse 2). Small vegetarian smoothie & açaí bowl bar. Mostly geared towards take-away customers, a few seating options (bench, counter seating). No customer bathrooms. There’s a corporate website, the (currently) only franchise location in Austria has social media accounts, including a Facebook account. This smoothie bar opened in November of 2023. (Last updated: August 11, 2025).
“Pepper & Ginny“ (current address: Ballgasse 5). Tiny shop which sells vegan delicatessen. On weekdays, one lunch option is served, also a small selection of sandwiches topped with vegan “lox,” “caviar,” and other specialty food items. A couple of bar tables, no seating. No customer bathrooms. This shop opened in 2019. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Reformhaus Staudigl“ (current address: Wollzeile 25). Health food store which also offers a few vegetarian lunch options. (Update: Lately, they seem to offer very few vegan dishes. At a recent visit on August 13, 2025, the only vegan option was one kind of sandwich – a small slice of bread with vegan toppings.) No seating, customers gather around bar tables and eat while standing. No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: August 13, 2025).
“Saladbox” (former address: Färbergasse 10). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Not sure when this restaurant closed, it was still open in 2019, but was no longer in business in 2023. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Simply Raw Bakery” (former address: Drahtgasse 2). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed in September of 2023. (Last updated: December 17, 2023).
“Space Burger” (former address: Hoher Markt 8). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant opened in November of 2019, and closed in the fall of 2021. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Superfood Deli“ (current address: Wipplinger Straße 3, one of several locations in Vienna). No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: March 17, 2024).
“Swing Kitchen“ (current address: Schwedenplatz 3-4/4-5, one of several locations in Vienna). Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Swing Kitchen” (former address: Universitätsring 10). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed in December of 2025. (Last updated: January 5, 2026).
“Taim“ (current address: located in the Schottentor subway passage, close to the U2-subway elevators). Israeli vegan streetfood, only take-away service. No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Taïm Café” (current address: Dorotheergasse 11). This café is located inside the Jewish Museum Vienna. Israeli vegetarian streetfood. Unlike Taim’s other location in the Schottentor subway passage, this café offers dishes made with cheese and eggs (but no meat/fish). More information to follow. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Tian” (current address: Himmelpfortgasse 23). Very expensive vegetarian restaurant which only serves dinner. Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Veganista“ (current address: Tuchlauben 12, one of several locations in Vienna). No customer bathrooms, only take-away service. (Last updated: December 17, 2023).
“Veggiezz” (current address: Opernring 6). Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. The restaurant currently has no website. But the restaurant is still in business. This restaurant no longer seems to be affilliated with the second “Veggiezz” location in Vienna. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Veggiezz“ (current address: Salzgries 9). Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. New website, new ownership. This restaurant no longer seems to be affilliated with the other “Veggiezz” restaurant located at Opernring. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Venuss” (former address: Herrengasse 6/8). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This location closed at the end of 2022. (Last updated: August 03, 2025).
“Yamm!” (former address: Universitätsring 10). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed in April of 2023. (Last updated: December 17, 2023).
2nd district – Leopoldstadt:
“bistro deppat” (current address: Leopoldsgasse 26). This bistro opened in September 2024. Many different vegan breakfast options, available all day. Proper chairs and tables, customer bathrooms. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Cuchina” (former address: Lilienbrunngasse 3). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Not sure when this restaurant closed, sometime after 2016 and before 2019. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Elmira” (former address: Vorgartenstraße 129-143). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This health food store and vegetarian café opened in 2017. The café closed down in July 2022, the health food store closed at the end of 2022. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Falaferia” (former address: Taborstraße 38/1c). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed in 2014 or 2015. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Falaferia” (former address: U1 subway station “Praterstern”). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed sometime after 2019, but before 2022. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).

“NomNom Vegan Bakery” (former address: Lilienbrunngasse 5). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This café closed in March of 2018. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Omas Backstube“ (current address: Obere Augartenstraße 70). Tiny vegan bakery & café. No customer bathrooms. Two small tables, but primarily take-away service. (Last updated: March 16, 2024).
“Oses Çiğköfte“ (current address: Praterstern 5). Vegetarian Çiğköfte restaurant with a couple of tables and proper chairs for in-house dining. No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: January 5, 2026).
“Pure” (former address: Praterstern 9). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant opened in the fall of 2022, and closed a few months later. I never actually managed to eat there, as it closed so quickly after it opened. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Rita bringt’s” (former address: Vorgartenmarkt, market stall no. 20). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant opened in April 2014, and closed sometime after 2016, and before 2019. The owner now focuses on her organic, vegetarian catering business. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Shiyu“ (current address: Ausstellungsstraße 21). Vegan restaurant, Asian cuisine. Proper chairs and tables, customer bathrooms. (Last updated: July 19, 2024).
“Veganista“ (current address: Taborstraße 15, one of several locations in Vienna). No customer bathrooms, only take-away service. (Last updated: March 16, 2024).
“Wilder Osten” (current address: Vorgartenmarkt, market stall 31; the Vorgarten market is located at the corner of Ennsgasse & Wohlmutstraße). Small vegetarian produce & specialty items food shop; breakfast & lunch served at four small tables in front of the shop. No customer bathrooms. No website, but a Facebook account. (Last updated: August 15, 2025).
3rd district – Landstrasse:
“Das Goldstück“ (current address: Marxergasse 9). Large vegetarian restaurant, open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays (excluding holidays). Self-service, you order and pre-pay at the counter. Proper chairs and tables for 35+ customers, plus counter seating with bar-stools for at least another dozen people. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, as are the customer bathrooms. (Last updated: October 23, 2025).
“Das Suess’kind” (current address: Sparefrohgasse 1). Small vegan restaurant geared towards the take-away lunch crowd. A few of tables and proper chairs, outdoor seating (weather permitting) in a pedestrian zone. No customer bathrooms. This restaurant opened in September of 2020. (Last updated: October 23, 2025).
“Ferri’s Bistro” (current address: Fasangasse 17). Tiny vegetarian bistro. One table with two chairs, plus bar-stool seating for two more customers. No customer bathrooms. No website but a Facebook account. This restaurant opened approximately in 2015. (Last updated: January 7, 2026).
“Reform Martin” (former address: Landstrasser Hauptstraße 23). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This health food store and vegetarian café opened approximately in 2015 (they took over from “Reformhaus Völkl”), but this location was closed permanently sometime after 2019, not sure about the exact date. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Reformhaus Völkl” (former address: Landstrasser Hauptstraße 23). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. The health food store and vegetarian café closed sometime after 2014. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Sattva Vegan“ (current address: Apostelgasse 29-31). Proper chairs and tables, customer bathrooms. This restaurant opened in 2020. (Last updated: June 04, 2024).
“Swing Kitchen” (former address: Invalidenstraße 13-15, L07, PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant opened in May of 2021, and closed in December of 2025. (Last updated: January 5, 2026).
“Tian Bistro” (former address: Weißgerberlände 14). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed sometime after 2016, and before 2019, not sure about the exact date. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).
“Ulli’s Veganeria” (former address: Apostelgasse 29-31). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. The restaurant closed in August of 2020. (Last updated: December 18, 2023).

“Vegetasia” (current address: Ungargasse 57). Vegan Taiwanese restaurant, Lunch buffet. Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. Cash only. Extended winter break, will re-open in the spring of 2026. (Last updated: January 7, 2026).
4th district – Wieden:
“Die Kochdame” (current address: Wiedner Hauptstraße 37). Tiny vegetarian café, no customer bathrooms. No website, try the restaurant’s Facebook account. (Last updated: August 02, 2025).
“Erna B.” (former address: Große Neugasse 31). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This café closed sometime after 2016. (Last updated: December 19, 2023).
“Frühstück & Mittags bei mir” (former address: Wiedner Hauptstrasse 31). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. The restaurant closed sometime after 2016 and before 2019. (Last updated: December 19, 2023).
“Reformhaus Wallner” (current address: Wiedner Hauptstraße 66). Health-food store with a tiny vegetarian in-house bistro. Only open during store hours; breakfast and lunch, no dinner. One communal table with bar-stools, no customer bathrooms. (Last updated: December 30, 2023).
“Superfood Deli” (former address: Operngasse 34). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. (Last updated: August 11, 2025)
“Swing Kitchen” (former address: Operngasse 24). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant closed in December of 2025. (Last updated: January 5, 2026).
“Tolstoy” (former address: Rechte Wienzeile 1B). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant opened in November of 2020, and closed down in the spring of 2025. (Last updated: August 01, 2025).
“Veganista” (former address: Operngasse 34). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This ice cream parlor opened in the spring of 2019, and closed in April of 2025. Several other locations remain open. (Last updated: August 02. 2025).
“Vegetasia” (former address: Favoritenstraße 38/20/R2): PERMANENTLY CLOSED – I think. I’m not sure this restaurant ever opened. This location has been advertised for several years by the owners of the main “Vegetasia” restaurant in the 3rd district, as “coming soon.” In February 2023, there were media reports that this restaurant had opened. On the restaurant’s website there’s information about this location (including information about opening hours). But whenever I stopped by in subsequent months (and years), it was closed, even though it was advertised as being open. My last walk-by was on August 13, 2025. I’ve tried at least ten times over the years, but I’ve now given up. (Last updated: August 13, 2025).
“Ve(n)ga Begetarisches Bistro” (former address: Wiedner Hauptstrasse 31). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. The restaurant closed sometime after 2019. (Last updated: December 19, 2023).
“Voodies” (former address: Rechte Wienzeile 1B). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant opened in 2017, and closed in 2019. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
5th district – Margareten:
“Rupp’s“ (current address: Arbeitergasse 6). Pub, with vegetarian food. Many vegan options. Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. (Last updated: March 29, 2024).
“Veganista“ (current address: Margaretenstraße 51, one of several locations in Vienna). No customer bathrooms, only take-away service. (Last updated: March 17, 2024).
6th district – Mariahilf:
“Ausnahmsweise“ (current address: Hofmühlgasse 18). Tiny vegan café, which offers glutenfree baked goods. The café has been in business since early 2018. Proper chairs and tables, but no customer bathrooms. (Last updated: May 05, 2024).
“Brass Monkey” (current address: Gumpendorfer Strasse 71). NO LONGER VEGETARIAN/VEGAN. (Last updated: December 19, 2023).
“Café Kafka“ (current address: Capistrangasse 8). This vegetarian café has been in existence as long as I can remember, but the website is relatively new, and the café now offeres more vegan options. Proper chairs and tables, and customer bathrooms. (Last updated: March 30, 2024).
“Delicious” (former address: Linke Wienzeile 22). PERMANENTLY CLOSED. This restaurant opened in November 2015. It closed sometime after 2016, but before 2019. (Last updated: December 19, 2023).

7th district – Neubau:
“Arket Café“ (current address: Mariahilfer Straße 70). Vegetarian café inside the Arket clothing store. Both the store and the customer bathrooms (on the upper floor, elevator available) are wheelchair-accessible; the customer bathrooms are only accessible with a code, staff will grant you access. A few tables with proper chairs, plus counter seating with bar-stools for a few additional customers. (Last updated: November 25, 2025).
“Bäckerei Schwarzbrot“ (current address: Lerchenfelderstrasse 13/5, in the 2nd courtyard; it can also be accessed from Neustiftgasse 16). Tiny vegan bakery with a limited, (but very good) selection of baked goods; only takeaway service, no in-house dining. No customer bathrooms. (Last updated: December 30, 2023).
“Biohof Radl – Biovegan2Go” (former address: Seidengasse 39b). This tiny restaurant closed sometime after 2014, but before 2016. PERMANENTLY CLOSED. (Last updated: December 20, 2023).

“Komagene” (current address: Siebensterngasse 41). Vegetarian Çiğköfte take-away restaurant. A tiny counter, with one bar stool. No customer bathrooms. The restaurant has a Facebook account, which hasn’t been updated since January 2024. (Last updated: January 5, 2026).
