Book Review: “The Strange World of the Crossword” by Roger Millington

Please note: I first published this book review on the “Goodreads”-website in 2023.

My rating: 5 (of 5) “stars”

I bought a used Hardcover-Edition of this book from AbeBooks. It was originally published in 1974 by M & J Hobbs/Michael Joseph.

The title of this book says it all – and I loved reading it, even though I only understood half of it. I had no idea that there were so many different kinds of crossword puzzles. Having never been able to solve even the simplest crossword puzzle, this book was a fascinating introduction into how setters use language to compile their puzzles.
