Rhulo is a vegetarian fast food chain which serves çigköfte wraps and çigköfte “sushi” rolls. Most of the food is vegan. There are currently (November 2025) three Rhulo restaurants in Vienna, all of which are geared towards takeaway customers. This one’s located in Ottakring, the 16th district of Vienna, at Neulerchenfelder Straße 36. There are no customer bathrooms, but chairs and tables are available for a few people, and at this location there’s also a “Schanigarten,” an outdoor seating area.

Rhulo in Ottakring is co-owned by Berk Mekik and Metin Bagriyanik. That’s Metin in the photo I took during my visit.
I rarely write restaurant reviews these days, and only publish a list of vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Vienna on this site, which I update frequently.
I decided to make an exception for this restaurant, as I had a great time at “Rhulo” in Ottakring. It’s a small takeaway joint, and I originally planned to only purchase a wrap, and be on my way. But then I saw that five teenage girls were having a great time at one of the tables, and spontaneously decided to eat in. I had a great time, too, due to Metin Bagriyanik’s friendliness and genuine hospitality. (I also loved the food!)

Usually customers order at the counter, pay in advance, and carry their food and drinks to the tables themselves. Not only was I told to sit down and relax and pay after I finish my meal, Metin also brought my food and drink to the table. Halfway through the meal, he brought me a cup of tea – on the house. It was delicious.
Why am I so impressed? I paid a little over 10.00 Euros for my meal, and if you deduct taxes, the cost for the food and all other costs related to running a restaurant, I estimate the profit from my purchase for the restaurant’s owners at less than 1.00 Euro – that’s less than 50 cent profit each for Berk and Metin. Yet I was offered a free cup of tea.
People from Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries are renowned for their hospitality, but to experience that level of hospitality at a small takeway joint was utterly unexpected. While I ate my meal, someone from the neighourhood walked by, and greeted Metin through the open door. A couple of other customers ordered food which they took outside, to eat on the patio; they were clearly regular customers, as they had a friendly chat with the owner. A friendly atmosphere, genuine hospitality, good food – I couldn’t have asked for more.
